Notification
Hello Parents and Families:
Late this morning, officials at Huron High School were made aware of a social media post mentioning threats of violence and a weapon. The post was sent late last night to an individual who does not attend school in the Huron School District, and school administrators were made aware of the post late this morning. As always in a situation like this, the Huron Township Police Department was notified, and school officials are working closely with the HTPD at this time. After consulting with the HTPD officials and reviewing our school emergency operations plan, students at Huron High School are being dismissed today at 12:20 as a precaution.
School is cancelled for the remainder of the day at Huron High School; this includes evening events. We have an increased police presence inside and outside of the building during the early dismissal. We will also have increased police presence at other school locations as a precaution. It is important to understand that no threats of violence were directed at other school buildings. School is still in session in our elementary and Jr. High School buildings. Student safety is our primary concern, and we will continue to work closely with the HTPD to keep our schools safe. In addition, we will send further communication pertaining to this issue when more information is available. It is unfortunate that, like many other school districts, we find ourselves in this situation. Nevertheless, I appreciate your patience and trust in our process as we work to keep our students safe.
