Graduation 2020

Huron High School Class of 2020 Graduation Rehearsal/Walk-Through

Huron High School Class of 2020 Graduation Ceremony Live Stream

The stream is scheduled begin Saturday, June 27th at 1:00PM.

Huron High School Graduation 2020 Attendance Information

After listening to the class of 2020 survey results, we postponed the graduation date till June 27, 2020 in hope that the restrictions on gatherings would be lifted in order to bring the class of 2020 together again as a whole class.

We have been monitoring the restrictions and requirements from the State of Michigan for Region 1. Unfortunately at this time, the restrictions do not allow 250 (the number of graduates and the staff it takes to run graduation) together in one place without violating executive orders and CDC guidelines and would also not allow for guests to attend. Today, the governor even extended the state of emergency.

Thursday, June 18, 2020, we have made the decision to hold the alternate graduation described in the information released to parents and students on Friday, May 22, 2020. Please know that we will make this special, and we have waited to the last possible moment to make final decisions to offer a traditional ceremony. Please check the Huron School Website at this link for more information about graduation at http://huronschools.org/graduation2020

  • Students and families are being chunked into groups to avoid a family sitting in their vehicle for a 3-hour period of time.
  • Huron River Drive will be closed down during this time by Huron PD and Fire Department. We have met with Chief Robbins and Chief Hinojosa to coordinate this. Entrance to the Renton Lot will only be from the East bound side of Huron River Drive. HTP will have HRD closed in front of HHS. HRD will be closed starting at 11:30 a.m.
  • Graduate vehicles can be decorated with student memories and mementos.
  • The speeches of the Class President, Salutatorian, Valedictorian, Principal, Superintendent and Board President will be released Saturday morning on YouTube to be viewed prior to the ceremony and students walking across the stage.
  • Huron Township Police and Huron High School Staff will help organize vehicles in rows to proceed through the front loop of HHS. Again, HRD in front of HHS will most likely be closed.
  • Graduates need to be seated on the passenger side of the vehicle.  Other members of the family will remain in the vehicle. The number of family members is up to the family and how many fit in the vehicle.
  • To start the ceremony, the National Anthem will be played.
  • When vehicles reach the name tent (at the athletic entrance in the front loop). The graduate will exit the vehicle and check in to get their name card. They will carry this name card to the stage to have his/her name read. Class sponsors will be present to assist. Please see the enclosed diagram.
  • As students wait their turn, pomp and circumstance will be playing as part of the processional.
  • Students should walk on the sidewalk adjacent to his/her family’s vehicle, staying on the marks on the sidewalk that distance students 6 feet apart.   Staff will be present to assist and guide.
  • Once the graduate reaches the stage, a staff member will guide them up the stage.  They will hand his/her name card to a staff member who will hand it to Ms. O’Brien, the assistant principal, to read the graduate’s name.
  • The graduate’s family, with the help from Officer Nappo, will be positioned in front of the stage when the graduate receives their diploma case while the professional photographer takes photos. Graduate’s family members must remain in the vehicle; pictures can be taken from the vehicle.
  • Graduates, once center stage, will remove his/her mask and face the family’s vehicle. The graduate will move his/her tassel from right to left. From the right side, Mr. Hudock will hand the graduate his/her diploma case. The Graduate can then pose for a picture facing the family’s vehicle.
  • There will be a professional photographer, videographer, and our staff simulcasting the event in front of the stage as well.
  • Once the graduate has stood center stage, moved his or her tassel from the right to left side of his/her cap, received his/her diploma case, and poses for their photo, the graduate will recession down the stage (opposite side he/she came up).
  • Once off stage, the graduate will take a flower (to be given to an influential person in his/her life) and recession down the sidewalk in front of the central office and to the A-Hall entrance.
  • At the tent by A-Hallway, the student will give his/her name to the HHS staff and receive his/her diploma, copy of the graduation program, and information for ordering photos and videos.
  • Recessional music will be played.  The school board and/or HHS staff will be along the walk (appropriately distanced) to wave congratulations.
  • Once the graduate recessions off the stage, Officer Nappo will guide the family’s car(s) forward so the next family can take their place to see their graduate cross the stage.
  • The family vehicle(s) should meet the graduate in the student parking lot.  The graduate will walk to the vehicle down the exit sidewalk outside A-Hall.
  • Huron Township Police (and Fire) will be in the lot to guide vehicles.
  • The two Graduate Banners will be placed in spots for graduates and families to take pictures in front of, providing a place for each graduate to toss his/her cap into the air and have photo opportunities.  Please see the enclosed diagram.
  • Additional vehicles and family members are welcome to park at the soccer field and north along Huron River Drive to cheer graduates as they exit north from the student parking lot.
  • Additionally family members can also watch the simulcast from their mobile devices and/or from a computer from home.  Link to the simulcast will be shared out later this week on the Huron Website and via email.
  • Additional checklists for graduates and families along with a graphic image of the above-described event will be distributed early next week.  Please watch for this.
  • On Friday, June 26, 2020 last minute information and reminders will be sent out and released.
  • Ms. O’Brien may also be reaching out if needed to get the correct pronunciation of your name. This will not be the case for all, but some.
  • Please note that it will be important that all students walk to the student parking lot after receiving his/her diploma case. The diploma is never in the case. We provide only one diploma per student. The school does not have copies, nor can have another one made. Be sure to keep this safe and make a photocopy to have as well.
  • Students not attending the graduation ceremony can pick up his/her diploma at HHS Monday, June, 29 or Tuesday, June 30 by emailing Mr. Hudock at [email protected]
  • After Tuesday, June 30, 2020, diplomas can be picked up from the Huron School District Office connected to the high school until August 3, 2020. Diplomas are not mailed.
  • I look forward to seeing you all on Saturday, June 27, 2020 and presenting you your diploma on stage.

Please stay strong and stay safe.
Mr. Hudock
